PORTLAND: The Declaration of Independence will be read by historian Herb Adams at noon at the Maine Historical Society, 487 Congress St. 774-1822; www.mainehistory.org. Fireworks begin around 9:15 p.m. at Eastern Promenade Park courtesy of Fireworks by Grucci, the company that did the fireworks at the Olympic Games in China in 2008. Access to Munjoy Hill and the Eastern Promenade by car will be closed at 6 p.m. Public restrooms will be available at East End Beach, Turner Street and Cutter Street. Food and drink will be sold.
