excerpts from "Two Ways to Make a Kid Smarter" by Martha Brockenbrough

We were at the Stockmann department store in Tallinn this weekend. We just planned on picking up sandwiches from the deli while the kids were playing upstairs in the play area. But as we were roaming the aisles on our way to get drinks, Tim spotted it:
Marshmallow Fluff! He literally RAN to grab a jar, saying, "I can't believe it!"

I kept saying, "This is hard to find even in America! This is a Regional Specialty!" (It's made in Lynn, Massachusetts.)

We also got some Skippy peanut butter (creamy for me, crunchy for everyone else -- it was even on sale!).

It's the little things you appreciate most!

We managed to avoid even going to Stockmann our first year and a half living in Estonia, but we've been there several times since first going with Mary-Kay at Christmas. We also get Campbell's tomato soup there!

Last weekend there was a spring fair in Tartu, with performers as well as lots and lots of vendors of handmade goods. It was a beautiful day to be outside and we made a real family outing of it (as did many people from town). This is the crowd in Raekoja Plats (Town Hall Square) with the historic Raekoda (town hall) in the back. Posted by Picasa

Here is a wide view showing all of Raekoja Plats. Believe it or not, it is even more beautiful than it looks here. Posted by Picasa

This is Chris (far left) during the youth Bible camp in Loksa last month. The kids were supposed to be discussing together the scripture that had just been presented (I think they were really just chatting!). Posted by Picasa

Here is Elizabeth during the cadets' visit to a noortekodu (children's home). She is planing a relay game with some of the kids. Posted by Picasa

One of the things Elizabeth enjoys most about having a little brother is that he will let her do just about anything to him. The dirty face was Peter's work, but the rest was her! Posted by Picasa

Christopher's Travel Plans

We are very excited that Chris will be attending the Salvation Army Battle School in Canada this summer!

We just booked his plane tickets, and his itinerary is below.

He will be in America 24-30 June (specifically, arriving in Boston on Fri. 23 June at 6:40 p.m.; flying out of Boston on Sat. 1 July at 1:25 p.m.).

We think that Mary-Kay will be in America beginning 29 June, if not earlier, so he will certainly want to be with her when she is around.

He'll be back in America 12-14 August (arriving in Boston Sat. 12 Aug. at 8:50 a.m.; flying out of Boston Tues. 15 Aug. at 6:05 p.m.).

Of course, August 14th is Andy's birthday, so I'm sure Chris will want to take part in any celebrations being planned for that day or the weekend!

So, please check your calendars and see when you'll be around.

He will need to be picked up and brought to the airport, need a place to stay, need to be fed, etc.

He is really looking forward to seeing everybody after a year and a half!

Please pray for him; this is a big trip to take alone.

"Don't Give Up" Peter Gabriel

Don't Give Up

In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight
Taught to win
I never thought I could fail

No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face
I've changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose

Don't give up
You still have friends
Don't give up
You're not beaten yet
Don't give up
I know you can make it good

Though I saw it all around
Never thought I could be affected
Thought that we'd be the last to go
It is so strange the way things turn

Drove the night toward my home
The place that I was born, on the lakeside
As daylight broke, I saw the earth
The trees had burned down to the ground

Don't give upYou still have us
Don't give up
We don't need much of anything
Don't give up
'Cause somewhere there's a place where we belong

Rest your head
You worry too much
It's gonna be alright
When times get rough
You can fall back on us
Don't give up
Please don't give up

Got to walk out of here
I can't take anymore
Going to stand on that bridge
Keep my eyes down below
Whatever may come
And whatever may go
That river's flowing
That river's flowing

Moved on to another town
Tried hard to settle down
For every job, so many men
So many men no-one needs

Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up
You're not the only one
Don't give up
No reason to be ashamed
Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up now
We're proud of who you are
Don't give up
You know it's never been easy
Don't give up
'Cause I believe there's a place
There's a place where we belong
Don't give up
